SiTU ACADEMY

lesson 8

You ask me, in what state our world is today and you even expect an answer.

The truth is in the stories told, so I will answer you with a story. It is the tale of the magic waterlilly.

Once upon a time a knight with his family lived in a tower in the middle of a lake. One way or another the magic waterlilly landed in the lake.

Why was it called “the magic waterlilly”?

This waterlilly had one characteristic. During the night the lilly split in two, so in the morning there were two waterlillies, the next day four and so on.

A beautiful sight, seen from the tower.

After three weeks, 21 days, the lake was half filled with beautiful waterlillies.

The question is: When will the surface of the lake be completely covered with flowers?”

Most people answer 42 and relax. But in reality it is after 22 days! When the knight woke up the next morning the lake-surface was covered. The big question is: what will happen next?

When you change the story in a tale about plastic, I would say the state of our world is this: we are in the night before the dawn of day 22!

Plastic accumulates in the oceans and the stuff cannot be destroyed. It is accumulating in enormous areas (garbage-patches). In the meantime more and more plastics are getting into the eco-system and finally the oceans. Untill this flow turns into a “tsunami”, that cannot be stopped.

Fish, birds, seamamals, deer, holy cows or elephants. They all are killed in huge numbers by consuming plastics.

We are killing the environment, the system we are part of. Mass suicide?

We all believe, that we have another 20 “days” to solve the problem. That is time, we don't have.

I hope, this answers your question, ….for this moment”.
